Wushu has its roots in China going back some 4,000 years. Wushu has gone through a lengthy path of development over time, having been referred to as martial arts, guoshu, gongfu and kung-fu at different times. The origin of wushu can be traced back to the early activities of the people who struggled for survival, starting in China.
Within the lengthy cold weaponry Era, wushu was employed by the army to subdue the enemy, practiced by the ordinary people as a way to make self-defense and coach, and also for pleasure.
Over a period of its gradual development in modern times, wushu has been largely separated from martial skills. With arrest and defense as its core movements and Chinese traditional culture as its foundation, wushu has become an international sports activity, which includes modern taolu and sanda disciplines, as well as traditional wushu.
The health benefits of wushu have become a well-known phenomenon in China, where the Chinese performance art has become increasingly popular over the years. It has become a national sport in a population of over 1.2 billion individuals. As wushu becomes more popular around the world, it is challenging to find its place in the international arena.
